Lourdes Central Catholic School

The ultimate goal for Lourdes Central Catholic School was to address their lack of storage and mismatched furniture while updating their library with a sleek, modern and uncluttered look. After a family's generous donation was given to perform a full renovation of their outdated library, Librarian Kim Esser contacted The Library Store design team to help bring her vision to life.

While working closely with Kim, as well as our furniture vendor, we were able to provide all new furniture which incorporated both functional improvement and beautiful modern design. The project involved procurring new shelving, tables, and a new circulation desk as well as custom cabinets for additional storage.

Nautilus Hybrid Tables and Shelving were chosen for their modern metal accents. A natural wood finish created a clean look and helped lighten up the library. The square table design allowed Kim to double the seating capacity compared to what they had before.

The heart of the renovation is a modern, mobile Russwood Rover circulation desk with ample storage within the desk and in custom accompanying storage cabinets. The patron ledge provides patrons a convenient writing surface with the added bonus of privacy for the librarian. The acrylic panel provides a modern, clean aesthetic. The desk sits on casters, making it easy to move the desk to make room for activities or to re-arrange the library's layout as needed.

The renovation added a new reading and lounge area for the students to create an inviting study and hang-out space. In keeping with the mobile functionality of the rest of the library, OFM Interplay Mobile Lounge Seating was chosen for the student lounge area.

Our design team took Kim's initial ideas and developed a plan to fit her functional and aesthetic goals for the library. We created renderings of the design to provide a better idea of how the final project would look. Once the design was set, we coordinated with the furniture vendor to create the custom items and keep the project on schedule.
